Three MAP Publications on Research Sponsored by Human Para

Thanks to the commitment of MAP researchers around the world and the generosity of the Human Para community to sponsor MAP research, there are three recent publications of interest:

Cytokine expression in subjects with Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis positive blood cultures and a meta-analysis of cytokine expression in Crohn’s disease by J Todd Kuenstner, Qiang Xu, Tim Bull, Antonio CG Foddai, Irene R. Grant, Saleh A Naser, Raghava Potula, Peilin Zhang, Ira Shafran, Serhat Emre Akhanli, Svetlana Khaiboullina and Russell Kruzelock. This article addresses the pathophysiology of MAP infection in the human host and is the first research article on MAP and CD published in an infectious disease journal. It seeks to elicit the interest and involvement of infectious disease specialists in the research of MAP and CD and other MAP associated diseases.

Horacio Bach, Peilin Zhang, Raghava Potula, Jean-Michel Galarneau and J. Todd Kuenstner have completed another article entitled, “Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis antibodies for the selection of patients with Crohn’s disease for anti-mycobacterial therapy.” This article also uses samples collected for the Temple University (TU) study and was paid for by the Human Paratuberculosis Foundation, the Abilene Christian University (ACU) and Dr. Kuenstner. This article, which describes improved test methods for Crohn’s diagnosis using MAP antibodies, will be submitted to PLos One Infectious Diseases. Look for this shortly!

Finally, the prospective and controlled Temple University study of 201 human Crohn’s subjects sponsored by Human Para in 2018 was published in the journal Microorganisms during the pandemic in 2020. See the Study Page for more detailed results!
